Current digs of not so current albums

I’ve been living here in Manchester for about 2 months now and i feel underwhelmed by university experience thus far. I mean, drinking a lot of gin and going to parties is definitely fun, and my lectures are – for the most part – interesting, but i don’t feel i’ve really settled. All my flatmates are older than me and i only consider one to be a genuine friend, in that we share common ground in music and sense of humour. I get patronised a lot for coming straight from secondary school which irks me infinitely and one girl in particular is so confrontational it terrifies me. Some people think they are so worldly aware after they have had what is basically an extended fucking holiday. I haven’t really met anyone with similar music tastes to me, even though i’ve been attending plenty of gigs and i don’t consider anyone on my course a friend. I miss my old friends, we could talk for hours about music and life and religion. I don’t think i’ve had a deep conversation with anyone here yet. Manchester is, however, an amazing city with so much going on. There are gigs i want to see every single week and only my financial constraints are stopping me going to them all.

Anyway, enough of my self-indulgent grumblings. The main point of this post is to share the albums which are the only music i’ve felt like listening to recently. I tend to just put certain tracks from them on repeat, never tiring of them unlike most other music right now.

Nick Drake – Pink Moon

Intricate, understated genius.

Radiohead – Hail To The Thief

Not their best album in my humble opinion, but brilliant in places.

Steely Dan – Aja

This album is just such a great time. Steve Gadd tears it up.

Wild Beasts – Two Dancers

Definitely one of my favourites from this year. They have really progressed from Limbo Panto.

Boards Of Canada – Music Has The Right To Children

Quite simply incredible on all levels.
