I knew it! This runner up phenomenon from l;ast season’s American Idol who was so unique , who had so much talent, and who was so much bigger than the American Idol stage has reportedly sold so much albums in pre-sales that he has already hit the #2 spot in the album charts. His debut album does not even get released until November 24th!
This is Adam Lambert. We are seeing the birth of a Superstar. With the recent death of Michael Jackson, there is really no one that comes close except for maybe Madonna, in that realm. Lambert has those qualities, and if Idol was any indication, he can pull it off.
His modernization of glam rock and his unique 21st century take on it will certainly add something new to the music scene tied down by tired pop redux songs and an over saturation of hip hop. He has some of the glitz of Elton John but Lambert certainly takes it to the the next level with his theater training.
For Lambert fans, his album is akin to a Star Wars movie opening. He not only has the force with him. He is the force.

I’m not gonna lie, I got a creativity orgasm with Icy Demons. Add synth-riffs, heavy bass backbones, ideal awkward vocals, and video game effects, and you get about the most zany music around. It’s good to know that Icy Demons are one of those bands throwing out the idea of traditional.

Il sort cet année un nouvel album intitulé My way.

Hello to you! I’m sorry the site hasn’t had much (or any) activity in the past month or two. I’ve been busy with school and work. I have written a new song or two, but don’t have my recording equipment at school with me. I may do a video soon. I am also working on mastering the six (or something like that) songs that I recorded over the summer. When those are mastered and a couple other songs I want on the album are recorded, a release date for the album will be finalized. Bear with me for now.

All the teenie bops from our town got outta school early and had their Teacher Mom’s drive them to the Staples Center in L.A. to see their idol Hannah Montana aka Miley Cyrus.
A few summers ago, my little cousins begged me to take them to see Hannah Montana in 3-D. Can you believe our tickets were $20 for a daytime movie? I almost walked out after I realized I paid that much for a movie but then I sat down and saw what it was all about and dammit I walked out falling in love with Hannah Montana. I would say Miley Cyrus but we all know that Miley is a lil hoochie just waiting to hit 18 so she can really run wild! he he he

Do utworów daję linki, którym życzę długiego bytu.

Pop Life: Art in a material world: will propose a re-reading of one of the major legacies of Pop Art. Opening at Tate Modern on 1 October 2009, the exhibition will take Andy Warhol’s notorious provocation that ‘good business is the best art’ as a starting point in reconsidering the legacy of Pop Art and the influence of the movement’s chief protagonist. Pop Life: Art in a Material Worldlooks ahead to the various ways that artists since the 1980s have engaged with mass media and cultivated artistic personas creating their own signature ‘brands’. Among the artists represented will be Tracey Emin, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Martin Kippenberger, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince.
Sept 22 already? Time flies. Posts are going to slow down a bit for me, but in turn get bigger. As I progress further into the semester, university tends to eat up the majority of my free time. Compounded by homework, my job, and planning one hell of a dance party for next semester, time is rather limited. Although we’ll still have weekly updates with lots of good noise for your ears. Speaking of which, check out the following:
I stumbled across a funky electric treat from the Sydney based duo DCUP the other day. The two really know how to create mesmerizing beats that mix genre and style to produce a unique original sound unmatched in the industry. The sax is brilliant. Funky, funky, funky!
Pablo Calamari – I Bought My Wife On The Black Market (DCUP Remix)
I’m going to be one of the last blogs to cover this track but it is definitely THE disco-house track of the past week. Fred Falke delivers again and with his synth flare’s and electric drops it’s hard not to want to keep this track on repeat. More including this can be found off BURNS‘ new EP entitled Teknique and can be purchased off beatport.
BURNS – First Move (Fred Falke Remix)
Missing summer already I turned to the Standing On A Shore remixes to bring a little bit of it back in my life. The best by far came from Cassian and Lifelike. Each are unique and bring something new to the table. Lifelike takes the title literally and reconstructed an instrumental fitting for the shore. Cassian returns this track to the dance floor. Both are great for different moments and moods, all pending where you are and what you’re digging.
Empire Of The Sun – Standing On The Shore (Cassian Remix)
Empire Of The Sun – Standing On The Shore (Lifelike Remix)
Lifelike is a busy man. Here’s another eclectic dreamy soundscape produced by the French man himself. Stellar stuff.
Lifelike – Discomachine
This next track is for all you heavier, aggressive junkies out there. Generally this isn’t for me, but the powerful ups and down’s, crazy drum intro, along the Beetroots signature synth drop makes it very difficult to not want to throw yourself around wherever you are. Dada Life and Alex Gopher… you make gooooooood music!

I definitely did not expect to like this album, a very nice surprise for me. La Roux brings some real good electro-pop to the table, with a fresh sound from London. The electronic grooves in some songs are almost too nasty, note to “Tigerlily”.
You can hear “Who Is David Bowie?” being read by legendary comedian Arthur Smith by clicking on the Box widget at the top right of the page.
David Bowie in Labyrinth
“So who is this David Bowie, then” asked pater one day,
As we communicated via telepathy over a bourbon biscuit.
“He sang songs about spacemen, laughing gnomes and Ziggy Stardust” I explained,
As pater decided that dunking was something bad and didn’t risk it.
“So his contribution is mainly lyrical?” questioned pater,
Over a large herbal tea and some custard creams.
“He also plays saxophone, guitar and keyboards” defended I,
As pater resumed his holy trinity jigsaw and mater mended my trouser seams.
“So this David Bowie has made a worthwhile contribution to society?” determined pater,
As I hurriedly drew a close to my communications with Elvis, the King.
“Certainly pater. His use of harmonies and wind instruments in modern pop is highly regarded”,
And with that pater called his hired assassin and cancelled the contract stating this such thing.

Yeps This Decade is almost over and the music critics are already letting it be known on what they thick of this decade. While some of the artists are on this list are on here because the critic does not like them note paris hilton album was not that bad and nickel back’s album spawned several hits which over a three year period. I highlighted the most notable ones and the ones in red are the ones I don’t agree with. I will have My List at the year of the year.
Vale a pena conferir.

East Of Eden, the second album from Taken By Trees, the solo project of Victoria Bergsman, may be a short album with 9 tracks clocking in just over 32 minutes, but it packs a pretty powerful wallop by its conclusion. The core material of the album was recorded over a six day period in Pakistan with the help of local musicians. It’s an almost perfectly conceived set of moody acoustic indie pop augmented, enhanced and sometimes transformed by the contributions of the musicians with which Bergsman collaborated. In the middle of the record Bergsman has also placed two non-English language tracks, one in Swedish and the other a Pakistani track called “Wapas Karna,” and follows those up with an inspired cover of the Animal Collective song “My Girls,” here entitled “My Boys.” It ends on a lovely note with the instrumental “Bekännelse,” which preserves the ambient noises of its original recording session, including what sounds like the shout of a child at the very beginning. East Of Eden will certainly take its place as one of the most memorable indie pop records of the year. Standout cuts: “To Lose Someone,” “Watch The Waves,” “Greyest Love Of All” and “My Boys.”

Enjoy it!

Luxooo” …chorei aqui.
They sound kind of Eurythmics/Yazoo/Depeche Mode/Flock of Seagulls to me and the lead vocal sounds weird, but somehow I still think they’re catchy.
The new male group Telepathy is out with their debut single “넌 마치 U.F.O” or just “UFO”, as it is called in everyday use, and the group is extremely outsatanding with names as: Suck (Vocal/Bass/Synth), Gunwoo (Guitar/Vocal), Horsie(Synth/Vocal) and Back (Drums), and their sound reminds me of the 80’s or kindergarden…
Their debutalbum “Vol. 1 – Human Evolution” was released on September 9, and I hope people will support them, though they are a little different from the mainstream pop. Anyway, here’s their MV to ”넌 마치 U.F.O” :
Tú no sabes bien porqué
a pesar del frío mueres de calor
en esta habitación no se puede respirar
abres la ventana es mucho peor
hay fuego en el balcón.
Arden, arden los muros y los tejados
arden las sombras de tu pasado
arden en llamas nuestros abrazos.
Arden, arden los mares y los desiertos
arde la culpa de nuestro deseo
y las palabras que llevan veneno
Porque esto es el incendio
Esto es el incendio
somos un incendio sin control
Aunque eches a correr
A very favorite artist of ours, Chihiro Kamiya, will be releasing a mini album titled “Cheeringu” on 9/30/09. The mini album will have a total of 7 tracks. In a departure to her previous albums which were Okinawan pop focused, the mini album will be a mixture of world, pop and reggae sounds. Whatever she sings, we’ll be buying it.
“Cheeringu” is available for pre-order at cdjapan.co.jp.
okinawaBBtv has an interview with Chihiro announcing her new mini album up on their site.
So, today I got home and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I got like three hours of sleep the night before and numbers were still running through my head. While rummaging through my game closet I came across my Xbox version of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.
I thought, what the hell, and popped it in. That was at noon. It’s now 11:30, and I just finished it. I single-sessioned the entirety of Sands of Time. It wasn’t even my first playthrough either, and I even got stuck at the light-and-mirrors puzzle again.
Strange how a game you’ve played enough times over still occasionally gets a playthrough.
I wish there was something I could say about Sands of Time that wouldn’t get reiterated, but hell I’ll just do it anyway; PoP:Sands of Time is one of the best games of all time, hands down, no holds barred.
Brightly glowing machine gun splatter and squelch counterpoint sounds from some wicked exotic elsewhere nightclub of the senses. The girl swims among the clitter clatter drumming, sings, ‘’Life is not so ordinary,’’ indeed.
This is twisted bubblegum, pulled out into quirky shapes, bleeding dark red beneath the plastic manipulations, a futureShock dance club as imagined by time-travelers from the 80s, their eyeliner smudged with true tears, their lipstick smeared hard against the cold glass of now.
Cold hearted telephones, jittery machines, syncopated sighs, often slide into the swing forward march of the grind house, bringing feathery fear and nervous delight along with frantic little stops, stop-motion, stop-starts.
Stop
Then start all over again.
Then a curveball, a teenage ballad almost, something to show off with her first necklace, first small earring, sometimes it seems the rain is always here, see how it makes everything shine so.
This is euro electronica filtered thru American new wave carried with care by rough souls who are learning to twist and fly, who are hoping to find out, if the clouds are really candy floss sticky.

Puppetbox – Puppetbox (Independent Release)
The PowerPunks met the New Wave at the high school prom, the pretty keyboard (in her best dress) asked the Guitar for a dance. He put down his bottle of beer and gave her this hectic twirl. And as the bass and the drum stomped along, it was, love at very 1st sight.
This is the Cars zoomed into the new century, the sly children of (before) Kiss and (tomorrow’s) Killers. It is also a document of a time that is already changing, warping, melting in front of our very eyes as the Puppets make a new box of sounds.
Which leads us to
Runtime Error – Puppetbox (Independent Release)
The puppets grow up, discover the sensual and discover the darkness. Their parties are louder, the chaos is gentle with hints of horror film glee. The puppets still want you to dance, they want you up against the wall wide mirror, reflected and distorted at the same time.
There are howls in the verses now, the rolling thunder is sped up and coughed out, the lightning illuminates and ambiguously camouflages. Those wicked old uncles from Kraftwerk have paid a visit all the way from Germany and in Triple Down made themselves totally at home.
The box is still full of hooks though, gleamy shiny bright hooks, making sure the songs attach themselves to the charts in our hearts and never ever leave go.
And still the puppets mutate, listen out ask for, the Disco Riot demo and find out for yourselves

You can hear BGT runner-up Susan Boyle’s rendition of the Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses.”
The Sun has the entire song, which SuBo is set to perform on American Idol.
It’s a lovely cover of the Stones classic, although I’m not sure I would recognize the voice as SuBo’s had I not been clued in.
I never really thought the Stones would be good cover material for the Scottish sensation, but now that it has been put in my head, I want her to sing “As Tears Go By.”

Let me take you on a trip around the world and back…
W kółko i w kółko Devotional, Devotional, Devotional.
World In My Eyes – oszczędny, ale jednak bogaty w dzwięki, pełen emocji i jeszcze ten tekst, i jeszcze ten Gahan: “now let your mind do the walking and let my body do the talking let me show you the world in my eyes“, “let me put you on a ship on a long, long trip your lips close to my lips“.
Za to Policy Of Truth namiętniej niż dawniej słucham, z tych przebojowych kawałków na albumie aktualnie mój No.1.
Enjoy The Depeche Mode!
This is the 32nd post in our Musician of the Day series.
Nathan was born in Owensboro, KY and has risen through the Indie ranks to become a major underground hit. His first EP, Leaving Duraleigh, was released in 2005 and the independently released album was a hit with fans who loved him not only for his great pop sound but also for his sexy model quality looks. One of the songs on the album Close Like Me is now a featured song on American Airlines flights and part of the compilation album Hope Vol. 1, which features great musicians like Johnny Cash and Lisa Loeb.
In November of 2007, Nathan released his first full length album, A Gentleman’s Closure, which in 2009 spent 3 months on the top of the Indie charts, with the ballad Broken but Breathing spearheading the success. A Gentleman’s Closure has become so popular that it has caught the attention of MTV, E! Entertainment and Oxygen, and all of them have signed non-exclusive agreements to play the album. The album also features the song Closure which has been picked up for rotation in Starbucks coffee shops because of it’s beautiful piano driven sound.
In 2008, Nathan was named MySpace’s number 1 unsigned artist in Kentucky with over 500,000 plays to date.
Recently he has released a brand new EP, Just Me, Just You, which is produced by Grammy nominated Ryan Farish. The album will certainly gain Nathan even more attention as his voice, looks, and studio quality independent albums become better with each new song.

I don’t have a lot of energy right now, as it is late and I am back late from a show, but I am now listening to this album and feel that it deserves a shout out. So I’m going to give my incomplete, fleeting two cents here anyway.
As the year progresses, more and more albums are catching my ear that impress me. I’ll be blunt by saying that No More Stories… is one of those albums. It is different from Mew’s previous LP, And The Glass Handed Kites (which, man, came out four years ago already?) in that it is very much a set of songs as opposed to a long suite. Each song is individual and memorable. This is due in part to Mew’s frequent tendency to experiment a little, and thus we get songs like “New Terrain” (which when played backwards reveals a completely different song. what’s shocking is that both songs are actually good), “Introducing Palace Players” (a fractured, no-tempo stomp), and “Cartoons and Macrame Wounds” (which begins at it’s climax and works backwards). Both of these songs are pretty out there at first listen, but give them a little time and the pieces click into place and they are ultimately enticing. They are just new and different enough to be fascinating but they also have more conventional, melodic elements to them, and Mew are very good at melody. The album isn’t all experimentalism though; there are a couple more streamlined tunes here, but they aren’t by any means radio pop. “Repeaterbeater” reminisces of “Apocalypso” off of Glass Handed Kites in that it is shamelessly riffy hard rock. I’ll put another thing bluntly. This album is loaded. It’s got a lot of really memorable songs, and really no bad songs. Even the longer, downtempo pieces (”Silas the Magic Car,” “Cartoons and Macrame Wounds”) are top notch chamber dream pop despite being a little less interesting. After maybe two listens, everything here is as familiar and excellent sounding as on Mew’s previous albums. The selection of songs that are excellent here is pretty overwhelming. Besides what I’ve already mentioned, “Beach,” “Hawaii Dream” (the album’s centerpiece, a tiny interlude. how funny that it ends up being one of the more memorable tracks on the album.), “Hawaii” (this one is just perfect, a charming tropical pop song complete with marimbas and skybound reverberating vocals), and “Sometimes Life Isn’t Easy” are all instantly classic Mew. And on the latter, Mew manage to match their awesome guest spot from J Mascis on Glass Handed Kites’ “Why Are You Looking Grave” with a showstopping performance from Mari Helgerlikova, an 88 year old Danish avante-garde singer. Basically, get this album for Christ’s sake. Mew make music that is, like much great art, just new and interesting enough to be engaging, but isn’t too far out. They are completely unabashed in their pop and rock sensibilities while still having the bravery to utilize conventions of many of their favorite genres such as shoegaze, dream pop, progressive rock and even classical pop. You could make a pretty good case that this is Mew’s best album to date. I can hear the complaint already that some might think that this album is tired, but it aknowledges this in it’s title, and knows it. Life can be weary and overbearing but finding refuge in quality music, whether it is music you can rock out to or curl up on the couch with, is pure satisfaction.
So much for the glamourous life of well-paid footballers.
Manchester United and England central defender Rio Ferdinand has taken a family holiday at a North Wales caravan park.
However, Rio and family were booked in a top of the line caravan suite at Presthaven Sands that costs £400 for the weekend.
A Haven Holidays’ company spokesperson said Rio signed autographs for excited kids and fellow campers snapped photographs while the footballer took a spin on the go-karts.
Rio’s fiancee proves all WAGs are not created equal, on this one.
Imagine one of Danielle Lloyd’s many beaus telling her the holiday break will be spent on wheels. I shudder at the thought.

Alrighty, I did this mix about a year and a half ago, and I think it came out pretty good. The intention was to make sure all tracks involved were not only big hits of his, but also had a video counterpart, so I could make a video to go with the mix, which I’ll post here. I hope y’all like it, and please leave a comment for some “feedback…feedback,” as Janet would say.
No Inferno Club nesse 11 de Setembro, rock do SUL com a Banda Identidade (RS) e Feicheleres (PR).
Prometem muito bom humor, rock and roll, cores e lisergia.

Welcome to the dawning of a new seven day cycle…
The tune I bring you today is a familiar one, delivered in a most unfamiliar style. I’ve gone into my love for the Blue Things here in the past. They were one of the truly great regional bands of the garage era, and ought to have been much better known. They were stylistically innovative, solid songwriters, and sadly never really fought their way out of the Midwest (where they were very successful).
The tune I bring you today is the Blue Things wild – some might even say sacrilegious – take on the Isley Brothers chestnut ‘Twist and Shout’.
I don’t think I’d be telling tales out of school if I were to admit that I am good and sick of the Beatles cover of the song, which seems to elicit a Pavlovian response from the Joe Six-Packs (and Ferris Bueller fans) of the world, amongst whom it is considered a great work of rock’n’roll art. An Ur document of s certain period of time.
In my little corner of the universe, where by the way I hold the Beatles in the highest possible regard, I consider their version of ‘Twist and Shout’ to be dreadfully overplayed and somewhat painful to listen to, a veritable grab bag of early-Fabs tics and clichés.
That said, the Blue Things unbox the song and take it to some strange new places. So strange in fact that I suspect some people might not realize right away what song it is they are hearing.
Their version of ‘Twist and Shout’ bridges the garage punk and psych styles, with a rough edge to it’s lysergic flights of fancy.
It’s heavy, and groovy and ought to be passed on to as many people as possible as a fine example of what can be done with a little imagination.
I hope you dig it.
Peace
Larry

Summer Of Love—-At once, you notice a somewhat subdued sound. The soundof the band is much more electronic and the trademark guitar sound is just not quite the same The vocal harmonies are excellent as always, but the joy of the band seems to be missing. The chorus does have nice catchy moments. The song is just rather subdued. That would be a trend that continued for the band.
Ain’t It A Shame [New Edit]—-Again, the trend leans to a much more subdued and mellow sound that the die hard fan was not accustomed to. Glaringly absent, one wonders what Fred is doing. The song is very mellow and with a hurting tone. Not a favorite.
Theme For A Nude Beach [New Edit]—-The song takes a bit to get going, and you are shocked by the pop sensibilities of the song. Fred is reduced to a subtle refrained vocal, but the lyrical content is the usual hilarity. The sound of the song picks up in fun as it evolves and all the harmonies are beautiful and chart oriented.
Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland—-Now……this is classic wild and fun B52s. The music is hyped and dance floor ready…there is a noticeable guitar sound that has been missing. The song is layered with keyboards and electronics that play off the instruments well. This is fun!
Wig—-Nice…..funny and inane….just what the Dr. ordered. This ranks right up there with rock Lobster…it is that fun and quirky. The guitar is a jangly affair and the drums are great. This is truly like a step back in time.
She Brakes For Rainbows—-Beginning rather sedate, the bass beat kicks in and moves the song to a faster responsibility. The vocal is sublime and beautiful at times. The music swirls around the voice in perfect production. This is nice.
Cosmic Thing—-Wonderfully eccentric from the onset, we had not heard the band in this mood for quite sometime. This was n album that cemented the band in the history books and the minds of many people as they invaded US radio. The song is fun and a nice sunny return to the beach.Wonderful!
Deadbeat Club—-The song is driven by a nice bass beat…even though the basic elements of the song are rather sedate. The girls handle most of the vocals, but Fred makes his presence known and it is to a masterful effect. This is/was pop and pop done with class.
Love Shack—-The song that the band will be remembered for forever!!!! The song was played to death and I really don’t like it that much, but after not hearing it for a few years, it is rather fresh and addictive. All signs of a truly good song. The atmosphere of the song is fun and zany and the World embraced it at the right time.
Roam—-My favorite song off of this release, the single is fun and beautiful at the same time. The vocals are fantastic and the harmonies unforgettable. the song retains that fun surf sound but really reminds us that these girls can sing. The drum track is awesome on this song and really is mixed into the song really well. This is great!!!
Channel Z—-Zany and wonderful….Fred is at his vocal best. The vocal trade off returns on this song and it works as well as it ever did. This is magnificent and almost like a step back in time. The song reaches back in time and grabs a hold of the fun that this band used to have. Nice!
Junebug—-With all of the animal and bird noises at the onset of the song, you know this should be fun.The beat is contagious and helps to usher in the vocal of Schneider. The song is somewhat more settled, but the lyrics and the in your face tambourine makes the song irresistible.
Follow Your Bliss—-Wonderfully constructed and performed, this mostly instrumental track shows the wizardry and the talent of the group as an entity. This is lovely, a nice prelude or postlude to a movie…wow…really great…how did I miss this?
Good Stuff—-My second favorite B52s song of all time…not only do i love the fun and the energy, the vocal delivery of the girls is so strong and addictive it makes you play it to or three times before you are finished with it for awhile. The trade off vocals are back in a strong way, but the harmonies and urgency of the girls make this song a masterpiece.
Revolution Earth—-Beginning with lots of mood and atmosphere, instrumentation grows but remains sedate. The swirls of sound and he electronic hums give the song a large feel…the voice in fine effect, but the feel of the song is way to sedate for this band.
Is That You Mo-Dean? [Interdimension Mix/New Edit]—-Obviously built for the extended play dancefloor, the song is full of spacey computer effects and a constant 110 BPM recipe. Fred appears and disappears, the girls take over. This is a rather stripped down version of the things that made the band great. Just not a very give remix….I think.
Debbie—-Allegedly written as homage to Blondie vocalist Deborah Harry, the song has some really great elements that draws me in right away. The pace of the song is led by the percussion and computer generated beats, but it works so well with this song. Fred sings, but way in the backdrop. The song is huge and delivers a great time.
Ha, a imagem do POST é a CAPA do single [simples e linda].
Say Anything have been busy lately with the recording of their latest self titled album, which is set to be released on October 13 2009.
The band have released the video for the track ‘Hate Everyone‘ which is pretty simply, a catchy pop punk song about things they hate. Check out the clip on myspace here, or the audio track here.
Max Bemis also played ‘Crush’d‘ along with some other tracks from previous albums for Spin recently. It seems as though Bemis is breaking away from all the angry songs about heartbreak and revenge, having married Sherri DuPree of the band Eisley in early April this year.

Finishing the final cleaning of my dad’s stuff (a “few” years late) has really brought home how his life stuff doesn’t fit the 21st century (sometimes it had some trouble in the 20th!) Pop was known for being old fashioned, not enjoying the library computer that his coworkers tried to get him to learn. But stuff that 20 years ago would not be obsolete now is. Pop loved encyclopedias and had three of them in the basement and one in the living room. The last one was thrown in the trash over the weekend. I know he’s not here, but trashing them still bothers me a little. I wish they could be of some use, but even the local book sale site noted that only encyclopedias less than 10 years old would be accepted (how many of those were even printed?!)
Then there are the typewriters. One of mom’s last vestiges is her manual Royal typewriter that she insisted on always using and was very happy to have. It’s going in the Tuesday trash. I’ve also been trying to see if there’s any demand for my dad’s two Remington manual typewriters, and not surprisingly, there isn’t. There were maybe 24 auctions for them on Ebay with a handful of bids, most of them 2 bucks or less. Sigh. So they will probably be joining mom’s typewriter in Tuesday’s trash. I distinctly remember both of the parentals using their typewriters and being thrilled with them. Alas, it is no longer 1960 (neither would ever upgrade to an electric.) It’s just sad to have to throw out these relics of a different time that has gone by the wayside…and of course, there are plenty of things that right now are depreciating in value.
Such is the rhythm of life. I can hear the value hissing out of stuff now (along with a screeching cicada)…
Wow, Movies You Should See was right:
some people DO look like they smell.
Please forgive the cuss word in the title today, folks. I don’t usually use foul language here at the Weather Station, but sometimes it just works. Anyway, I was thinking about Oasis this morning, because apparently the band has broken up, which I don’t care about. Like a lot of you, I didn’t even know Oasis was still around.
They had their day. In fact, you can look it up: it was in 1996, when Wonderwall became the band’s top-selling single. After that, I don’t know much about what happened, and I’m a music guy. Maybe some of you out there remain big Oasis fans, but really, I never got the buzz.
I do like Wonderwall, though. Great song, great lyric. It features one of the best drum performances of the 90s, and works on every level as a solid pop performance. Not a bad legacy, really; the bands of the 1990s tend to be remembered for one great song, and while sometimes it’s Glycerine or Lump or Pretty Fly For A White Guy, other times it’s Wonderwall. So there’s that.
But I find it fascinating that Wonderwall lives on as a subject of uncountable mashups. For those of you who don’t know what that is (in other words, my mother), a mashup is a DJ-created piece of music that takes two or more songs and merges them. They work best when the song choices are wickedly similar, but nobody ever noticed (like this one, my favourite). Sometimes they don’t work at all. But Wonderwall seems to be at the heart of a lot of them.
What does this say about the song? Is it deceptively simple? Or corny and unoriginal? A bit of both, I’d say. It’s easy to play on guitar, and it’s easy to sing. It’s easy to remember and hum. But it still has an emotional core that’s unique — in other words, it’s a solid pop song.
It also says that when it comes to mashups, a lot of people like fucking around with Oasis.
Cheryl will be filming the music video for her 1st solo single this weekend and we hear there will be lots of dancing! The rumour is that her debut single will be a collaboration with Taio Cruz and feature a rap by him. His discription of their track together as a ‘club banger’ certainly fits in with the idea of a dancey video, and we all know how hot Cheryl’s dance moves are!
We will be hearing her debut single before the end of September, so exciting times all round!
There’s also a little info about the album here:
While we wait with bated breath for Cheryl Cole’s first solo album, I spoke to a music insider this week who’s already had a sneak peek. He told me: “Everyone’s been saying her stuff is r’n'b based with a lot of hip hop but that’s rubbish. It’s a pop album. Cheryl’s stuck to her roots.” I can’t wait to hear it!
It’s all right!:-) Whitney Houston comes back! You know, it’s really great thing one has to celebrate when someone he or she loves the most comes back, right? So, one of my favorites, the Diva comes back and this news makes me happy. Since 1998’s “My Love Is Your Love” is still her best album as an accessible, elegant and entertaining collection of slick pop-soul songs, diva ballads and uptempo R&B jams. I love it. “I was not built to break,” she says. Steady!
If tomorrow is a judgement day
And I’m standin’ on the front line
And the Lord ask me what I did with my life
I will say I spent it with you
If I wake up in World War 3
I see destruction and poverty
And I feel like I want to go home
It’s okay if you comin’ with me
If I lose my fame and fortune
And I’m homeless on the street
And I’m sleepin’ in Grand Central Station
It’s okay if you’re sleepin’ with me
As the years they pass us by
we stay young through each other’s eyes
And no matter how old we get
It’s okay as long as I got you babe
If I should die this very day
Don’t cry, cause on earth we wasn’t meant to stay
And no matter what people say
I’ll be waiting for you after judgement day
‘Cause your love is my love
and my love is your love
It would take an eternity to break us
And the chains of Amistad couldn’t hold us
